Yesterday one of my closest friends responded to my life update by reflecting on how she sees me. She knows that this has been a hard summer for me. She called me a shapeshifter, saying that every time I’ve moved through a challenging phase in my life, I’ve come back stronger, and in a new form.

When she told me this, I felt all warm and fuzzy inside. I felt full-body chills of confirmation from my spirit, the part of me that remembers things my mind does not. I recalled a lot of the different versions of me, really fast, and we both looked at each other in the eyes thinking the same thing in the way that only your closest friends can.
